Bodychains
2022
silver clay, various metal chains
This work is the result of an Artist-in-Residency program held by Mare Karina in collaboration with Factory Market, in which I participated. During a week-long stay in Lecce I researched the city urban decoration to then integrate them into body ornaments. Given my personal interest in wrought iron, I started looking for all types of street components made with this technique, but then expanded to other kinds such as tuff low-reliefs, of which this baroque city is very rich.
These patterns and motifs then turned into charms used as decorative links for a set of three bodychains, the Butterfly, Spiral and Bird chains. By bringing together urban and bodily decoration my aim was to dig into the analogy that links the body to the city, the human anatomy to the street map, creating an overlap between shapes, landscapes and urban spaces - the inner and the outter geography.
